New readers might want to know that the "guarantee" part of the Current Account Switch Guarantee is all about getting it done painlessly and easily and within a week.
Veteran observers of modern retail banking won't be surprised to know that on 22nd November I got a letter from Old Bank acknowledging that the switch had happened ... and then another on 26th November warning me that payments still being made out of my old (supposedly closed) account were exceeding an overdraft limit that the bank had "agreed" (without reference to me) so that I was moving into short-term loan territory.
I'm not sure whether the young account manager at New Building Society would want to be named here, but she was a great help and I'm pretty sure I've made the right move. Wish it could have been easier, though.
*Wrongly addressed, despite my visit to the branch with passport and utility bill on 4th November to set them right. What's happened to our banks?
